The world of Dead Cells is getting a lot bigger.

Indie game studios Motion Twin and Evil Empire have unveiled plans for an upcoming “major” DLC expansion for the popular roguelike adventure game coming in Q1 2021. Titled Fatal Falls, the DLC will bring new threats, locales, and rewards to the Dead Cells universe.

Fatal Falls will introduce two new “biomes”, dubbed Fractured Shrines and Undying Shores, along with a new boss. These new settings are designed as parallels to the existing Stilt Village, Clock Tower and Time Keeper areas and their alternate paths. These new paths promise fresh middle-run exploration and ways to succumb to a painful death.

The DLC teaser also hints at a cache of new weapons available for players, the details of which will be revealed soon.

Fatal Falls is the second paid DLC for the Dead Cells community, following Bad Seed, which launched earlier this year.

Dead Cells is a roguelike game in which gamers play the Beheaded, a prisoner trying to escape from an unnamed island. As the Prisoner explores a series of dungeons, they encounter creatures to fight and bosses to defeat, collecting abilities, skins, power-ups and money along the way.

Since its initial release in 2018, Dead Cells has gone on to sell more than 3.5 million copies globally, Motion Twin and Evil Empire revealed on Tuesday. The game has been lauded by critics and won best action game at the 2018 Game Awards.

Dead Cells is currently available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC.
