The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners generated $29 million in revenue over its first year, publisher Skydance Interactive announced Monday, making it one of the best-selling VR games of 2020. Originally launched in January 2020 on the Oculus and Steam, the survival horror shooter rolled out on various other VR platforms throughout the year, including Sony’s PlayStation VR in May and the Oculus Quest in October, where it quickly became one of the top sellers on the platform, with Quest sales outperforming the Rift and Rift S tenfold.
In addition to fiscal success, the game was also critically acclaimed for its innovative gameplay, receiving several award nominations, including best VR/AR game at the 2020 Game Awards (Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx took home the statuette in the category).
To celebrate the one-year anniversary of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Oculus Quest will be releasing a new game mode called The Trial. This free update will challenge players to face off against relentless waves of walkers. As players survive each round, they will be rewarded with points based on their performance, which can be used to purchase a variety of weapons and crafting items to plan for the next wave of enemies. The Trial launches Feb. 4.
